Let’s face it. In many ways I am a typical female. I cry at Hallmarkcommercials. I worry incessantly about the little things like whether or not these shoes make my feet look fat. But when a cause hits so hard that it makes me emotional thinking about every aspect of it, then I know it is time to take action.
Thompson Child and Family Focus is a cause that does that to me. Founded in 1886 as an orphanage, Thompson has tirelessly worked for the benefit of children for the last 124 years. This non-profit organization has grown to three campuses that cater to children by not only providing them a comphrehensive education, but also giving them the care that they might not receive elsewhere.
Do you know what really gets to me though? The love Thompson gives their kids. All children, I don’t care what the circumstances are, deserve a safe haven filled with love. Knowing there are children in this world that don’t receive the love and care they need, it makes me feel things I can’t describe eloquently enough. So I won’t even try. The range of emotions is so vast and varied that I am all over the map.
That is why I am beyond honored to be taking part of their Annual Portraits of Courage Luncheon on May 11th. This year, they are doing things a little differently. While traditional media will be there in full force I, along with ten other Charlotte area “Twitterati” will be using social media to raise funds for this cause. The #Tweeta20 are asking our followers to donate $20 or whatever they can afford to help change the life of a child. As an added bonus, Thompson will enter donors into a giveaway to see “Wicked” in Charlotte at Ovens Auditorium.
So, I implore you, consider giving whatever you can to this cause. While it may not seem like a lot to many people, it could mean the difference of seeing the world with hope and optimism versus seeing through eyes clouded with despair and pessimism.
As my husband said, if you’re looking for a way to “pay it forward,” this is a good way to do it.
