Dress for Success Charlotte is hosting it’s annual 5k Power Walk on May 11, 2013 at Freedom Park. The Power Walk is a fundraiser helping “power” women to self-sufficiency. Dress for Success aids women in low-income situations looking to secure employment, achieve economic independence and strengthen their families. Funds raised will go to support the more than 900 women who come through the doors of the Charlotte Dress for Success location doors each year.
Charlotte is lucky to have Erica Bryant of WSOC-TV returning as honorary chairwoman for the third year. Lorie Cox is returning as the chairwoman of the Power Walk in Charlotte, joined by Tina Thornton as co-chairwoman. More than 35 American cities and nine countries around the world will be hosting a Power Walk simultaneously.
A new addition to this year’s Power Walk for Dress for Success is Charlotte’s Stiletto Swagger – where more than a dozen brave men will come out to “Raise the Heel” by walking in man-sized stilettos in support of Dress for Success Charlotte. (Lipstick is optional, but we’d all prefer a dash of crimson gents.)
Kerry Barr O’Connor, Executive Director of Dress for Success Charlotte says, “ I look forward to this event each year, as we see former client success stories joining with current clients to raise awareness for the organization, and support each other’s journeys.”
