Over the last few weeks, I’ve been in and out for the holidays. This time of year is super busy and I’m tired, but that hasn’t stopped my lust for time-saving technology or wine. Thankfully, I found the WineStein iPhone application and it’s been a boon.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m at dinner, if the restaurant doesn’t have a sommelier, making wine choices are difficult at best. While I’m educating myself on the finer nuances of wine, I don’t know enough to make a solid decision that will truly please my palate. Sure, I can come close, however this gal isn’t afraid to say she needs professional help.
That’s where WineStein has come in handy. My husband and I were lucky to have a mid-week date night last night, however we had to leave from our restaurant to stop at a friends house, and then drop in at another friends party. I didn’t have the typical 20-30 minutes to hem and haw over the wine list and decide.
Meaning, I needed pinch some time out of my day by using WineStein Pro.
Since I was in the mood for a Riesling, I was able to select a dish off the menu and using
WineStein was able to create what they call a “meal DNA”. Essentially, they finding the best wine pairings using an artificial intelligence system. It works. Let me tell you, broiled crab cakes and Riesling are a stellar combination. I really got what people talk about — the blending of food and wine and how it dances in a myriad of flavors on the tongue. I never knew you could have a Fourth of July celebration in your mouth. Yet, there I was, experiencing gorgeous fireworks.
Sure, the app isn’t perfect. I’d love a larger database of wines and an individual entree to select from, such as crab cake, and not a full menu. However, this app hasn’t been around that long and it’s database of 600 wines is enough to get you started and keep you tasting for a long time.
