It’s Conference Time — 10 Tips for Type-A Parent Conference Atlanta

I’m on my way to Atlanta Thursday for the Fifth Annual Type-A Parent Conference. This is my fourth year attending and Type-A is what I consider to be my conference home base. Founder and Type-A Mom, Kelby Carr, puts on a top notch educational experience for bloggers and this one will be no different.

Since there will be many people new to Atlanta area, I’m sharing some of the great things to do in Atlanta, as well as a few things to prepare you, whether it’s your first blogging conference, or 100th.

1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Just roll with it.

2. Don’t Outboard.

3. Don’t Suitcase. (See Outboarding.)

4. Take a lightweight jacket or sweater. Hotel conference rooms tend to get chilly.

5. Go to the Varsityto eat. If doesn’t matter if there are a thousand people in line, you’ll never wait longer than 10 minutes.

6. If the Varsity isn’t your cup of tea, hit up Mary Mac’s Tea Roomin the Virginia Highlands neighborhood. Order the tomato pie.

7. Forgot your, well, anything. Walk down to Lenox Square for some of the best shopping the in the country.

8. The High Museum of Art is the leading art museum in the Southeast, with 13,000 works of art contained in it’s collection. (I’ll be down early Thursday to see Vermeer’s “Girl With a Pearl Earring.”)

9. Find me if you want to know where the best coffee in Atlanta is. (I don’t share it with anyone.)

10. If you have time, go to the World of C0ca-Cola and see how many different sodas you can sample with going to the bathroom. Make it a game with your friends. First one to the potty has to drink Beverly. (It’s a very, very bitter aperitif that was sold in Italy.)

Thre are many more places to go and visit in Atlanta: Grant Park, Zoo Atlanta, Stone Mountain Park, Yellow River Game Ranch and Kangaroo Conservation Center, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change. I’ve visited all of these but a few, and each one is worth your time.

Home. What a lovely word, full of meaning. Home. The word that fills me with contentment, knowing I’m with my husband and son, in the place we not only hang our hats, but have made some of our most cherished memories.

I’m home after being away five days at the Type-A Parent Conferencein Asheville, North Carolina. One of the most amazing conferences set in the most glorious conference setting possible. (I could be biased as I grew up a short drive to Asheville and consider it my second home).

Not only did I get to see friends, but I made so many new ones, as well as had the chance to put real people to the faces I love. These women have supported me and accepted me for who I am, offering an ear when I’ve needed it and supporting me in my darkest hours without questioning; nor judging me when I was most broken and couldn’t be there as I should.

I’m bone tired friends, yet my brain is on fire. But just for tonight, I’m headed to bed and hoping my brain shuts down. Hoping the blissful sensation of sleep restores me so I wake up tomorrow fresh and ready to jump feet first back into reality.

Type-A Conference Dance Off!

Type-A is just 4 days away and there is going to be a Just Dance 2 dance off at the closing party Saturday night!

I’m working with the Clever Girls Collective and Ubisoft to pull all of this together and we are getting teams of four to show off their mad skills.

There are going to be great prizes, a new Ubisoft game introduced and more fun than you can shake a stick at.

Blog Conference Necessities or “Lisa’s List”

It’s that time of year folks. When all the good little blogging girls (and boys!) start gearing up and heading to conferences. A time to commune, be educated, network and take pictures that we don’t want to wind up on the internet. But we know our friends will publish, so we suck it up until the next conference so we can get incriminating photos of them.

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of fantastic posts about not only what to expect when at conference, but what you should take, prepare for, etc.

This is not one of those posts. People conferences wear you down. You’re tired. You don’t sleep. Your feet hurt from schlepping back and forth all day. My God it’s amazing! Where else can you squee with delight at seeing 3-D versions of people you only know in 2-D and sleep with strangers in your hotel bed and it not be a one night stand, nor require condoms? WHEE!! (Good manners do require you to shave your legs people. I’m looking at you roomies.)

Here is what I will be hauling with me next week to Type-A Parent conference.Located in glorious Asheville, NC, a short drive away, I will take my essentials to get me through happily. After all, a happy Lisa makes everyone happy. A cranky Lisa is a force to be reckoned with and not lovable.

Coffee maker. 12 cup. That’s right. If I can drive. I travel with a coffee maker. Happy Lisa has coffee upon wakening. Unhappy Lisa trudges to the lobby with her hair resembling a very blonde Polly Pocket searching for what she craves, desires, and needs. A caffeine fix. One that is made with an exquisite organic, fair-trade dark roast and complemented with half and half. Not the fat free dreck either.

Smart water.A case. People are buying you drinks. Wine companies are sponsoring parties. You’re drinking way too much coffee. Hydration is key minions!

Next on the agenda: Sally Hansen Peppermint Foot Lotion. Dogs. Barking. Need I say more?

Crocs flip-flops.This is my list and I aim for comfort. Hate on my flip-flops all you want, but I love them just as much as I love cake. Maybe more. That’s saying a lot.

Finally, Air Therapy.That’s right. We all do it. You know what I’m talking about. Number 2. It doesn’t matter how much you like your roommates, you don’t like them that much.
