Mobile apps are a dime a dozen. They’re everywhere and new ones are being released every day. I’ve spent the last few months testing apps on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and have come up with what I think is not only a great list, but one of apps everyone smartphone owner should have on their Android.
1. Advanced Task Killer
Android apps don’t automatically shut off after you close them. You have to manually quit them for that to happen. Advanced Task Killer takes care of that for you. There is an ignore list so apps you never want killed are left alone. I have mine set up to auto-kill once an hour (not recommended by the developer). It saves battery and bandwidth on my phone.
2. Dropbox
I take a lot of photos with my mobile phone and I back them up to my home computer via Dropbox. Email is another item I’m constantly checking on my mobile. Dropbox is a great way for me to save any attachements, photos, videos and docs from my phone, yet allowing me to clean up my inbox. I can also access files I need from my phone if I don’t have a laptop or tablet with me. It’s a great option for mobile working.
3. Instagram
Finally on Android, Instagram is a new way of sharing photos. This service allows users to share their photo stream with friends, while editing them with a series of filters to breathe new life into what was once a regular photo.
4. Google Drive
I work heavily with cloud computing and Google Docs is my main work area for everything I do. I can share files with clients, export files as needed for others and access anything I need. Google Drive allows me to keep everything, as well as share everything. The ease of editing within Google Drive makes it a go-to app for how I work.
5. Pandora
Normally, I work in complete quiet. However, there are times I stream music, generally when I’m working away from home. Pandora allows me to stream for free with limited commercial interruptions. I can set up the stations I want and listen to a variety of artists based off the main artist I select. It’s also a good way to sneak in Christmas music a few months early when I’m working on holiday material. Shhh, don’t tell my husband.
6. Safely Go
I’ve already written a comprehensive post about Safely Go here. You want this app for you and your family. Trust me. Safely Go receives your calls and texts, keeping you connected and responsible, making you and the road a safer place for everyone.
What apps do you love having on your Android phone? Leave them in the comments. I’m always on the lookout for the next great app!
