Tom’s of Maine Deodorant — Putting It to the Test {with Giveaway!}

June 11, 2016 by Lisa 8 Comments

How often do you take a look at the ingredients in the products you put on your skin? I have always had sensitive skin and, after a bleach exposure many years ago, am very careful with what I use. At one point, I couldn’t walk down the laundry detergent/cleaning products aisles in stores. I’ve always been very conscious about what I use in my home, but this experience made me even more cautious with what I also use on my body. When Tom’s of Maine reached out and asked if I’d like to test their new long-lasting deodorant stick formula in the blazing heat and humidity of North Carolina, I knew it would be the right time to put their products through the paces. Would they hold up?

I use only deodorant in the winter and go back to my sturdy standby (an antiperspirant) in the spring and summer months. My seasonal switch is more about mindset and what I think I need versus what will work just as effectively without containing ingredients I avoid in other skin care products. The older I become, the more I think about my body, how it’s feeling, as well as what I’m doing and the effect on my physical well-being.

There is a period of adjustment when you switch to a deodorant only. Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Natural Deodorant is not an antiperspirant — it’s a product designed to provide protection against body odor. It is not designed to keep you from sweating. Even during the winter months, my body needs a few days to get used to the difference. I apply my deodorant a few times per day during this transitional period for maximum effectiveness.

Tom's of Maine long-lasting deodorant

After using the product for 5 days, while working in my air conditioned home, I gave it the real test and mowed the lawn. We don’t have a gas powered mower, instead we use a reel mower which is powered by brute strength and buckets of sweat. Afterwards, I ran the weed eater. I was drenched — my clothes were soaked and I’ll be quite honest with you, I didn’t want to think about a sniff test. But, sniff I did and it wasn’t… awful. Actually, it wasn’t bad at all. I wasn’t daisy fresh, but I also smelled no different than I would had I been using my summer standard. In my book, Tom’s of Maine long-last deodorant works.

Tom's of Maine Long-Lasting Deodorant

What does Tom’s of Maine do to keep me smelling fresh, while helping me avoid artificial fragrances and petrochemicals? These long-lasting deodorants contain the botanical ingredient hops (yes, the same hops we brew beer with) to inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria and zinc ricinoleate to absorb odor. And it works. That being said, what works for one person may not work for another. The only way to find out if it will work for you is to try it.

Do you want to make the deodorant switch and try the new Tom’s of Maine long lasting deodorant? I’m hosting a giveaway and one person will win a care package to get them started on their #DeoSwitch!

Post Secret Performance Dates

Secrets are the currency of intimacy. Sharing your most intimate thoughts and secrets with the world is a scary. PostSecretfounder, Frank Warren, created his site as a safe haven for people to send in their secrets anonymously on the back of a postcard. Sometimes they are published online, other times they’ve been published in one of his books. What happens when people come forward to tell the story behind the secrets? You get PostSecret — The Show.

PostSecret The Show is a visual, auditory and emotional journey through the beauty and complication of our deepest fears, ambitions, and confessions. With the assistance of projected images and video, three actors guide the audience through a crowd-sourced narrative of the stories behind never-before-seen secrets: sexual, sad, funny, and controversial postcards that have made PostSecret.com one of the most popular blogs in the world.

With half a billion visitors, half a million anonymous secrets received and the release of 5 bestselling books, artist, curator and internet phenomenon Frank Warren has put together a team of theatre professionals to bring life to the unheard voices of PostSecret. With the bravery of RENT and the surprising honesty of The Vagina Monologues, PostSecret The Show is a breakthrough in audience sourced storytelling that reaches beyond the confines of the stage, reminding audiences that no matter what you may be facing, you are not alone.

Assassin’s Creed 3: Amazon Gold Box Offer for 12/11/2012

December 1, 2012 by Lisa Leave a Comment

Assassin's Creed 3

Assassin's Creed 3

Thank you toUbisoft for sponsoring this post. Please visitAmazon.com to get your own copy ofAssassin’s Creed 3, today’s Gold Box Deal of the Day! I was selected for this opportunity as a member ofClever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.

There are days I’m asked how I do it all and stay sane. Do you really want to know my secret? I’m a gamer. Not a hardcore gamer, but gamer nonetheless. At night, I curl up on my sofa with a cup of tea, my wireless Xbox controller and a game of my choosing.

Did I mention they normally involve me blowing something up? Hi. My name is Lisa and I like to blow things up to clear my head. The great thing about gaming for me is that my brain shuts off and I can let go of my day so I sleep better. (I also meditate afterwards — but that’s another post for another day.)

Assassin's Creed III Boston Harbor Scene

Lately, I’ve been playing Assassin’s Creed. (Yes, I do have a minor in the house and no, he’s not allowed to play this game.)

It’s role playing going back to 1775 — only very realistic. The American colonies are about to revolt and you’re sworn to secure liberty for my people and nation. It involves hunting your enemies across a staggeringly large, open, and realistic world. Your skills are lethal and you meet legendary heroes of American history, and together you will conspire to annihilate those who threaten Liberty itself.

Assassin's Creed 3 New York Brewery

Email fatigue has  nothing on me when I’m done playing after about 30 minutes.

You can purchase Assassin’s Creed 3 on  Amazon.com. Today it’s the Gold Box Deal of the Day: http://clvr.li/AC3Gold!

She’s Crafty!! {Not the Beastie Boys version!!}

November 8, 2010 by Lisa 5 Comments

Tis the season to be…WAIT!!Where is my to-do list? Why haven’t I started my Christmas shopping? Where is the hot cocoa and candy canes? But most of all, WHERE IS MY SCOTCH TAPE?!?!

I can guarantee that I will run out of tape while wrapping gifts. It doesn’t matter how much I have purchased, I am going to either misplace it, my son is going to tape stuff all over the house or my husband is going to try and defuzz his sweaters with a fist full of tape (at least I didn’t say his chest!). Take your pick, all three will happen. It also happens when I am crafting. But it’s usually glue for my hot glue gun. It’s like the project pictured here. Simple enough. 9×4 and 12×4 cones, covered in scrap booking paper and topped with a Christmas ornament on top for festivity. Since the craft only took an hour and I was going to have it ready and on my sideboard before I had friends over for dinner, I thought “piece of cake”.

It never happens that way. If it did, my mouth would be riddled with cavities.

No glue for my hot glue gun. No foam spray glue. So, I did what any self-respecting woman, with a naked side board would do, broke out the scotch tape. What you have before you my friends thought I spent hours on. Instead? I slapped it together with tape in under five minutes. It’s adorable and my dining companions looked at me as if I were the holy grail of domestic doyennes, Martha Stewart. Secretly, Martha would have been slapping me around my house for my lack of preparation.

I don’t want you to be caught unawares this holiday season. Does that mean I am giving you a great to-do list to keep you organized? Nope. I am giving you tape. Lots and lots of Scotch Tape!

Now, I am giving one (1) lucky winner five (5) rolls of Scotch Tape! That’s a lot of sweater fuzz! I am also giving five (5) lucky winners one (1) roll of Scotch Tape.  Mosey on down to the comment section below and let me know you need some Scotch Tape. If you have a funny wrapping experience, even better! After all, I need to know that I am not alone in my domestic disasters.

Thanks to Scotch(R) Double Sided Tape for sponsoring my writing about crafts. Add your comment below to be entered for a chance to win free sample rolls to help with your upcoming holiday needs, and join the conversation on the Scotch(R) Brand Facebook Page. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective , which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.
