This weekend marks the opening of the 2010-2011 opera season in Charlotte, thanks to the folks at Opera Carolina. The season opens with Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” and there will be performances of works by Verdi and musicals later this season. Like a lot of other mid-size cities, we’re seeing cutbacks in the schedule and reductions in the arts in general here. Sad, but not uncommon and not unexpected. The benefits of having a robust arts scene are more than worth the costs.
This little video taken at the Wachovia Atrium (Will it change to the Wells Fargo atrium anytime soon?) is pretty cool. Call it a drive-by opera, if you will. You might see me in this video as a passerby, but I’m not telling.
