Every year when I was a student at Spindale Elementary school, I would climb on the big yellow school bus for an adventure to R-S Central High School.
It was the opera.
I loved it. It was a slice of heaven for a little country girl from Western, North Carolina. The singers, the sets, the clothing and the majesty of all that is opera. Some people think that opera, for lack of a better word, is lame. It’s anything but.
Opera was the first soap operas! They are haunting, and can be filled with love, romance, death, laughter, deceit, intrigue and mystery. Sometimes all in one performance.
I am attending a performance of La Boheme tomorrow night as a guest of Opera Carolina for the commencement of their season. Due to budget cuts, the season is starting mid-winter. I feel that La Boheme is the appropriate first choice as its tale of love at first sight also begins mid-winter.
Even more exciting for me is exposing my son to his first opera. He loves all form of music, I hope this is no different.
Attached is a video of the Overtures Roundtable of the stars of La Boheme for you to gain an insiders perspective of La Boheme.
