It’s tough being on vacation and going to a restaurant that has been consistently good for years, one that you look forward going to every summer, and it has changed. Drastically. Yesterday, I was terribly disappointed by one of my stand out favorite restaurants in Southport, NC. It’s always been fantastic and the crab sandwich was my fave.
Yesterday, it was like eating bread. Just bread. With crab flavor. I knew it was different when it came out to the table. Being married to a Marylander you learn a few things pretty quickly. What a crab cake is supposed to look like is one of them. This one smelled of frozen, processed patty. To make it worse, the hushpuppies were like bricks and tasted of freezer burn.
Where was the freshness of a year ago? Let me tell you where, down the toilet with the rest of the economy.
I don’t know what to say. It’s like going to Grandma’s and Grandma hired out catering from someone who has never cooked a meal before in their lives. Where was Gordon Ramsey? Why hasn’t “Kitchen Nightmares” been called in to fix the problem for this scenic place that was absolute perfection and now a bready, freezer-burned taste left on my palate? Maybe because the kitchen was still too nice, the view of the Cape Fear was too pleasant and the service was still good.
