This trip is being paid for by SouthEastern Toyota. Me agreeing to do something so out of character is a whole other story.
Do you ever say you’ll do something and it isn’t until you’re already committed that you realize you might be a few cards short of a full deck for having to agreed to it? You might has well get the white jacket and throw me in the padded cell. My friends at Southeast Toyota reached out to me recently and asked me to check something off my bucket list. I picked up a 2015 Camry today, errr… yesterday (it’s 12:30am EST) and Friday morning am heading out on an adventure with my best friend to go #CamryBold.
Just call me fraidy cat.
Let me give you some backstory. I’m terrified of man-made heights. I’ll hang off the side of a mountain I’ve climbed, no problem. If man has made something I have to climb, say a ladder to change a lightbulb, I wig out and either can’t climb the ladder, or, worse, can’t climb down. While I realize this makes me a complete and total weirdo to most people, it’s a very real fear.
So what is this bucket list thing I’m doing that’s causing me so much anxiety? I’m crossing the mile-high swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain Friday morning. That sound is my throat closing and my stomach dropping to the floor. All I can do is sit here and say “omg, omg, omg, what am I doing?” (Yes, I do think in OMG’s to save brain space. Sherlock could learn a thing or two from me.)
How bad is my anxiety? I’ve been seeing my shrink every week for a month to discuss methods I can use to do this one thing. If I could take my acupuncturist with me so she could stick me full of needles when we get there, I would. Were my husband and son to go with me, I’d never cross the bridge, because I’m pretty sure I would cry and they can’t handle it when I cry, so there would be no bridge crossing for me.
Luckily for me, other things are going on that has haloed take my mind off of my trip. Benedict Cumberbatch got engaged and since I read the London Times, knew at 2:00 a.m. this morning. My heart is not broken, but I’m still convinced we are to be BFF’s in the very near future. Wolfgang Puck has a new pressure cooker oven — I’m sure turkeys will be exploding everywhere this Thanksgiving. My pedicure is also shot, of course that may be too much information.
Over the next week, I’ll be sharing cool things about the new 2015 Toyota Camry — like how the bells rang and angels started singing when I realized it has 36 pre-set channels for the radio. 36!!!!! Really, I have nothing left, except to say follow along with me this weekend as I traverse the big spooky bridge, drive this sexy piece of machinery down the Blue Ridge Parkway from Boone to Asheville, and then visit the Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn. If you follow me on Twitter, Instagram, etc., I’ll be using the hashtag #camrybold and highlighting the car and my adventures (when I have signal) all weekend.
