I took these recently on a day trip to Fort Fisher, NC. It’s amazing how these beautiful flowers grow seemingly out of nowhere.
These are Gaillardia, also known as Indian Blanket and Fire-wheel. They bloom from April to October and thrive in sandy locations. This plant is a North Carolina native and blooms throughout the coastal southeast.
This is where I found them. If you look at the bottom-right of this photo you will see the greenery shining among the rocks.
